Tourists who choose to spend their holiday in the Basilicata
region are going to discover an unspoiled corner of Italy with a
great artistic and cultural heritage.
The landscape offers a wide range of natural attractions: pebbly
and sandy beaches, lakes and mountains.
Tourism has especially developed on the Tyrrhenian and Ionian
coasts, but it is in the inland where travellers who are looking
for tradition and genuine food can find their ideal destination
here. They will enjoy a healthy environmental heritage made of
clean air and spring waters.
Places worth visiting are: the thermal spas of Rapolla, Ala,
Latronico, la Calda; the national and natural parks of Pollino,
Gallipoli Cognato and Dolomiti Lucane; the archaeological and
natural park of Murgia; the rocky churches of the Matera area;
the museums of Potenza, Matera, Melfi, Venosa, Metaponto,
Policoro, Castel Lagopesole and Irsina;
Basilicata also means “folklore” whose origins come from the
ancient past and have been firmly preserved by the inhabitants
of the region. In addition, a deep fatalistic religious faith and a
sense of magic are the basis for several celebrations aimed to
recall both Christian rituals and historical events.
